How to Move a Hot Tub When You’re Moving House – The Complete UK Guide

Moving house with a hot tub can feel like a puzzle. You’ve got enough going on, then the spa you’ve loved for years needs its own plan. You know what? Most people assume it’s a quick lift and shift. It isn’t. A hot tub is heavy, awkward and sensitive to pressure in places most people never see.

With the right prep and the right team, the whole thing becomes calm and predictable. That’s where we come in.

Let us explain how to make your move run smoothly.

Moving house with a hot tub... where do you start?

A hot tub normally weighs somewhere between 200 and 450 kilos when empty. They’re not designed to be manoeuvred like a fridge or sofa. The shell, cabinet and pipework all need careful handling. Early planning makes life easier because access, electrics and timings shape almost everything that happens on the day.

A couple of photos and some simple measurements go further than most people expect. They help us understand whether our Spa Dolly will glide through your property or whether the Sledge or even a HIAB crane might be needed. Sending these through at the start saves everyone time and avoids surprises.

Your pre-move checklist

Here’s the thing. A tidy checklist now means no hidden snags later.

1. Access checks
Walk the route the tub will take. Measure gates and openings. Tight 90 degree turns can be tricky because our Spa Dolly is 350cm long, even though it’s only 90cm wide. Our Sledge folds down to fit through openings as little as 85cm, but it still needs firm ground like decking, concrete or gravel.

2. Surfaces and gradients
Grass looks harmless until a 300 kilo tub sinks straight into it. If it’s the only available route, you may need ply-board down first. Gentle slopes are usually fine, but long or steep gradients may require extra kit or a larger team.

3. Photos
A few shots of the gates, paths, corners and any steps help us spot potential issues before we arrive.

When a HIAB might be needed
Sometimes there’s simply no route through the property. Terraced housing, narrow side passages or high retaining walls can all call for a HIAB crane. Lifting a tub over a fence or even a house sounds dramatic, but with safe reach and weight limits confirmed, it’s often the cleanest solution.

Timings and lead times

People often ask how far ahead they should book. A good rule is two to three weeks, especially if your move date is fixed. Late spring and early autumn are busier as people set up or shut down their gardens.

Booking early means you can weave the hot tub relocation neatly between removals, cleaning and handing over keys. You won’t be left rushing, and your spa will be ready to use at the other end without delay.

Electrics at the new property

This is the part that catches people out most often. A hot tub needs the correct supply waiting at the new home.

13A vs 32A
A 13A plug-and-play spa runs from a standard outdoor socket. A 32A spa needs a dedicated supply with an isolator installed by a qualified electrician.

The 2 metre rule
The isolator should be within roughly 2 metres of where the tub will sit. If it isn’t in place or is too far away, we can’t complete commissioning on the day.

What we do during commissioning
Once the spa is positioned, we connect the supply, fill the tub, add chemicals, bleed the pumps and run performance checks. You also get a Mini Service so we know everything is running as it should before we hand it back to you.

Insurance and safety

Moving a hot tub is specialist work. Proper insurance covers the spa, the property and everyone lifting it. If a corner clips a wall or a pump is damaged during loading, you’re protected.

There’s also the safety side. Hot tubs have sharp edges underneath, fibreglass sections that can crack under the wrong pressure, and weight distribution that catches even very strong people by surprise. Our kit takes the strain so you don’t have to worry.

What our professional relocation includes

When our team turns up, you get a process shaped by thousands of successful hot tub relocations.

Arrival and prep
We assess the access, drain the tub if needed, and set up the Spa Dolly or Sledge. Tight turns or awkward angles are handled with the Wedge, which helps lift the spa to its balance point.

Lifting and moving
We protect the spa where required, tilt it safely, secure it and move it with controlled, steady handling.

Transport
Your spa is strapped safely inside one of our purpose-built vehicles driven by trained hot tub engineers.

Positioning and commissioning
At the new property, we set the tub in place and, if you'd like one of our Get Started packages, we'll connect it to the ready supply, fill it, balance the water and check performance. You end up with a working hot tub ready to enjoy.

When storage makes sense

If your move-out and move-in dates don’t match, storage can be a real lifesaver. We keep your spa dry and secure until your new garden or patio is ready. It removes the pressure of trying to position a spa in a half-finished space.

Moving a Hot Tub When You’re Moving House

Moving a hot tub when you’re moving house becomes far easier with a bit of planning and a team that does this sort of work every day. Send us a few photos, check the electrics at the new place and book ahead where you can.

We’ll handle the lifting, the transport and the commissioning so your spa is bubbling away again before the boxes are unpacked.
